There aren’t many third party resources out there that explain what Market America is all about, and whether it is legit or not. In fact, in all my research, I’ve only come across four articles, and they were confusing and inaccurate. First of all, if you are looking for a “get rich quick” type of business, stop right there. This compensation plan is not for the weak! It is based on finding qualified business owners, as opposed to “opportunity junkies” who constantly jump to the next best thing.
The compensation plan is based on a “points system”; in other words, all the products have a point value assigned to them, and those “points” accumulate until they reach a certain point, when the distributor gets paid.
Unlike most network marketing companies, there is no purchase requirement for the distributor – only sales requirements, which is actually a requirement of the US government, not Market America itself.
So a distributor can technically get paid without ever having bought a single product. What Market America stresses, however, is that having good products is key to their success, and you can’t really sell a product you’ve never tried. That makes sense – I’d be wary of any company that doesn’t stress how great their products are!
Market America’s product line is very diverse. After checking out their website, they have products in just about every major industry, from health supplements to laundry detergent to websites.
Their internet franchise concept has grown into a super-affiliate program, where you can actually shop at thousands of major stores from their website and get paid for those sales as well. They even offer cash back on almost all purchases made from their website – kind of like a little rewards program. This is actually a great incentive for the distributor’s customers, and is really a unique concept among Network Marketing companies.
Of course, one of the most important things to look at with any business is its track record of success. Market America has been in business since 1992, and after viewing its annual report, which has been made public, they have had continuous growth since its inception.
The bottom line on this company is that yes, Market America is a legitimate home business opportunity. But with its wide range of products and services, and its unique compensation structure, it is ESSENTIAL that you have the right marketing training to build the business.

Apple now has Rhapsody as an app, which is a great start, but it is currently hampered by the inability to store locally on your iPod, and has a dismal 64kbps bit rate. If this changes, then it will somewhat negate this advantage for the Zune, but the 10 songs per month will still be a big plus in Zune Pass’ favor.
