In a word, YES.

Why, you ask?

Well, when you think about it, without a mission statement, you’re really just kind of wandering aimlessly through your days, weeks, and years with no REAL direction…

It’s like when you wake up in the morning on a day when you have nothing planned to do…you might take a shower (or you might not), you might go shopping, you might call up a friend for a lunch date, you might watch a movie.  In fact, there are plenty of things you might do if you had a day with no plans.

Just like you MIGHT build your business if you have no mission statement.

Think about it: if you have no direction, no purpose, no clear goal as to why you’re building your business, you have no reason to build it!  Just like if you have no real reason to shower in the morning on a day with no plans, you might just decide not to…and don’t pretend you’ve never done that!

A mission statement clearly plans out what you need to do each day, week, and month to hit your yearly goal.  But that’s only one part of it.

The other part is to remind you every day who you are and what you do that makes you equipped to hit your goals, and what your purpose is in your business (or life).  Here’s a good example of a mission statement:

My purpose is to express my passion, compassion and sincerity by striving to be better at who I am and what I do every day, by truly caring about others’ success and by being open, honest, and direct.  My goal is to be generating 50 leads per day, have 100 new business partners, be completely free of all debt ($80,000) and obtain at least $500,000.00 in residual income by 5/18/2011.

You can see the two parts to this statement – the purpose and the goal.

If you don’t have a mission statement, or PURPOSE, what’s to stop you from getting up to shower every day?  (Metaphorically speaking!)

So here’s your next “Road to Success” assignment: WRITE YOUR MISSION STATEMENT!!!

If you’re having trouble, there are plenty of mission statement generators online.  Check a few out and see which one you like.  But either way, write your statement.  I guarantee it will change your business.
